Awkward Moments is a digital campaign for NHS Scotland to help 16 to 19 year olds talk about sex and consent. The films came to us through One Minute Briefs and Thread & Fable. I produced them.
The campaign was developed by the sexual health teams at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Lothian, after research into what actually helps young people communicate about consent and know when a sexual experience is going well. Young people were part of the commissioning, the development and the delivery.
The films are short dramas, around two minutes each, built around the moments the research identified.
The campaign was created by Bank of Creativity and launched in June 2022. The films have since been added to the national teaching resource for Scottish schools at Senior Phase. The campaign site is awkwardmoments.co.uk.
I costed it as two and a half days and compressed it into two busy ones in Glasgow, with a Manchester crew travelling up. The films were delivered with and without subtitles, plus intro titles and a montage cut for the launch, and the campaign soft-launched in June 2022 with digital ads reaching young people across Scotland.
